Think and Grow Rich

Think & Grow Rich by Napolean Hill

I have to say that this is one of the best books I've ever read. There is so much information and techniques packed into this book at it needs to be read again and again, even studied. I think that if I applied all of the techniques from this book to my finances, I'd be a ba-zillionaire. :)

The original unabridged version has some interesting language, but without it, I think it may take away from the impact of the original intent.

The Art & Craft of Success - 10 Steps

"The Art & Craft of Success - 10 Steps" by Ostaro was a fascinating read. I was actually fortunate enough to meet Ostaro in person. Very exciting! :)

Ostaro is New York city's original astrologer and numerologist extraordinaire.

More info is available at: www.ostaro.com

This book is Ostaro's take on interpreting universal laws, reinforcing that positive thinking leads to positive results.

Ostaro proposes that where you are located physically, can aid in your level of success and provides a formula to help you move to a location where you would be most successful.

He then talks of man's unlimited potential and explains how we all have energy reservoirs that we can tap into, which can provide us with limitless energy. Given we know how to utilize our powers.

Flow charts, diagrams and models are provided to illustrate his various principles.

Very interesting concepts about vibrational energies and surrounding yourself with the right people, to move yourself closer to success and your goals.

"Our creative potential is unlimited, yet we insist on setting the limits to our success"
-Ostaro

Ostaro also helps you to realize how you can materialize your desires and says, that if you believe you can succeed, you will.

Thanks Ostaro! This was a great read!

Man's Search For Meaning

"Man's Search for Meaning" by Viktor E. Frankl, was moving and riveting.

It tells his story from not only a survivor's perspective of a Nazi death camp, but also as a psychologist.

It attempts to go into how certain people gave up and other's persisted, with respect to their own "will to live".

Frankl offers many positive methods of thought that he exercised while a prison and how he would cope with the daily evils of the camps.

He also argues that man cannot avoid suffering but we can choose how to cope with it.

The second half of the book goes into "Logotherapy", Frankl's own creation to help people find and assess the meaning in their lives. "Logo" is Greek for "meaning", so it can be thought of as "meaning therapy". At the heart of logotherapy, is a conviction that the primary human drive is not pleasure but the pursuit of what we find meaningful.

How to Win Friends and Influence People

"How to Win Friends and Influence People" was an empowering read, for sure. It was comprised of short stories that spoke of strategies, successes, life lessons, etc. Lots of good advice here from Dale Carnegie.

The Richest Man in Babylon

Hello,

Just finished reading a great book called, "The Richest Man in Babylon" by George S. Clason. Below are some extractions from the book.

Basically, it is a collection of "Babylonian parables" about managing money and building wealth.

There are lots of good principals to point out:
  • A Part Of All You Earn Is Yours To Keep
This principle states that you should save at least 10% of whatever you earn. That money should also be put to work for you in some sort of investment (stock market, CDs, money market accounts, commodities, other wise investments etc.).

  • Seven Cures For A Lean Purse

1.) Start thy purse to fattening
    2.) Control thy expenditures
    3.) Make thy gold multiply
4.) Guard thy treasures from loss
5.) Make of thy dwelling a profitable investment
    6.) Insure a future income
7.) Increase thy ability to earn

"...thus the seventh and last remedy for a lean purse is to cultivate thy own powers, to study and become wiser, to become more skillful, to so act as to respect thyself..."

  • Meet the Goddess of Good Luck

    - Good luck waits to come to that man who accepts opportunity
    - To attract good luck to oneself, it is necessary to take advantage of opportunities
    - Good luck can be enticed by accepting opportunity
    - Men of action are favored by the goddess of good luck

  • The Five Laws of Gold

1.) Gold cometh gladly and in increasing quantity to any man who will put by not less than one-tenth of his earnings to create an estate for his future and that of his family

2.) Gold laboreth diligently and contentedly for the wise owner who finds for it profitable employment, multiplying even as the flocks of the field

3.) Gold clingeth to the protection of the cautious owner who invests it under the advice of men wise in its handling

4.) Gold slippeth away from the man who invests it in businesses or purposes with which he is not familiar or which are not approved by those skilled in its keep

5.) Gold flees the man who would force it to impossible earnings or who followeth the alluring advice of tricksters and schemers or who trust it to his own inexperience and romantic desires in investment.

  • Better a little caution than a great regret

  • We cannot afford to be without adequate protection

  • Where the determination is, the way can be found

Those are some of the principles from the book. I thought it was a great read. I could also see this book being required reading in an economics class, specially targeted towards people that need to learn how to manage and save their earnings and begin their money to work for them through sound investments.

It was an easy read for me as well because it was broken down into small digestible stories. I don't have too much time to read, but when I do, it was easy to get back into. So you could read for a bit, then put the book down, and not really lose where you left off on.

The book can be bought at Barnes and Noble for less than $10 dollars, I highly recommend it.
